The Importance of Art for Children

In the recent years, the school curriculum has shifted towards common core subjects such as math and literature, but what about arts? Art education can be a luxury for some, but overall, the creative activities are building block in the development of the child. In the process of growing, if a child can create and appreciate the visual aesthetics, then it will contribute to his/her development.

Everyone has an imagination. Art takes it a step further!

Here, are six ways in which art is helping in the development of a child:

1. Academic Performance: Indulging art into the routine activities of children not only improves the creative mind but also spills over their academic performance. It is beneficial to evoke art if you wish your child to gain recognition in academics.

2. Creativity: Art allows children to express themselves better than other disciplines like math or science. If your child has a practice of thinking creatively, it will help them grow and transform their career in future.

3. Visual Learning: For young children, drawing, painting, or other art activities will help them develop visual-spatial skills. Apart from texts and numbers, art education will raise student’s style of interpretation, critical thinking, visually imagination, and will help them make the right choice.

4. Motor Skills: Holding a paintbrush or scribbling with a color pencil are components for development of child’s fine motor skills. Also, the development milestones should exist such as around age of three; a child should be able to draw a circle and use of safety scissors. In the age of four, children can draw a square and start cutting shapes with scissors.

5. Concentration: Concentration is vital to learn and study during the classroom sessions and perform the assigned job roles in the future. Thus, painting, singing, or drawing can help children build concentration, contributing in the major tasks of life.

6. Cultural Awareness: Living in the diverse society, the images of different groups in media present mixed messages. Teaching children to recognize the concept of great designers and artist will help them understand that their visual imaginations can be drawn into reality.

Conclusively, in the process of creating geniuses, integration of art in the early childhood will result into the “all-sided development” of the children.
